Play Spades online free — partnership Spades with bidding and nil
Spades is the partnership trick-taking game where spades are always trump and every hand begins with a bid: each player says how many tricks they will take, and the team's bids are added together. Play Spades online free on CardCouch — you and North against West and East, first to 500 points wins.
Make your bid and score ten points per trick bid, plus one per overtrick; fall short and lose ten per trick bid. Overtricks are bags, and ten bags cost 100 points, so accuracy matters. A nil bid is worth 100 points if you take no tricks at all — and costs 100 if you take even one.
On CardCouch
- Standard partnership Spades: 13 cards each, bids from 1 to 13 or nil, spades broken rule, bags, games to 500.
- A computer partner that bids on real hand strength and covers your nil; opponents that try to set it.
- Three difficulty levels, clear per-hand scoring, and your settings remembered between visits.
- Phone-first table with large tap targets; keyboard and screen-reader accessible; no download, no sign-up.
Frequently asked questions
- How do bags work in Spades?
- Every trick you take beyond your team's bid is a bag, worth one point. When a team collects ten bags it loses 100 points and the count starts again.
- Can I bid nil?
- Yes. Bid nil to promise zero tricks: success scores 100 points, failure costs 100. Blind nil is not offered.
- What score wins a game of Spades?
- The first partnership to reach 500 points wins. A team that falls to −200 loses immediately.
- Is Spades free to play here?
- Yes. Spades on CardCouch is free, runs in your browser on any device, and needs no download or account.
