Worked examples
- Your team calls hearts trump and takes 4 of the 5 tricks. You score 1 point.
- Your team calls trump and sweeps all 5 tricks. That's a march — 2 points.
- You go alone and win all 5. Big swing — 4 points.
- The other team calls trump but only manages 2 tricks — they're euchred, so your team scores 2 points.
Why the euchre matters
Notice the makers can never score more than they risk: if they overreach and fall short, the defenders take 2 points. That's why defense — stealing three tricks to euchre the makers — is worth as much as a march. More on that in the Euchre strategy guide.
Winning the game
Points accumulate hand by hand; the first partnership to reach 10 points wins. Because going alone is worth 4, a single bold hand can swing a game — but a euchre can just as quickly swing it back.
